Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 17, 2026
Scanly is a document scanner built by Verxion. This policy explains what happens to your data, both when you use Scanly on its own and when you sign in to back up and sync your scans.
The short version
- Scanly works without an account. If you don't sign in, your scans and their text stay on your device and we never receive them.
- If you sign in with Google or Apple to use cloud backup, we store your account details and the documents you back up on our servers, so you can restore them and use them on your other devices.
- You can delete your account and everything backed up to it at any time, in the app or on our account deletion page.
- We do not sell your data, show ads, or use advertising, analytics or tracking SDKs.
- Google's on-device ML Kit (scanning and text recognition) may send Google anonymous diagnostics, never your documents.
Data processed on your device
When you scan or import a document, Scanly stores the images, any text recognized from them (OCR), your folders and your settings in the app's private storage on your device. Scanning and text recognition run on your device. Without cloud backup, this data leaves your device only when you choose to share or export it, for example using the system share sheet, printing or saving to Files.
Uninstalling the app deletes the data on your device. If your device backs up app data (for example iCloud or Android backup), that backup is handled by Apple or Google under their own privacy policies.
Account and cloud backup (optional)
Cloud backup is off until you sign in. When you sign in with Google or Apple, Scanly keeps your documents backed up and in sync across the devices where you are signed in.
What we store
- Account details: your name and email address as shared by Google or Apple (with Sign in with Apple this can be a private relay address), and the account identifier they give us. We never receive your Google or Apple password.
- Your documents: the page images (as scanned and as edited), the text recognized on them, document titles, folders, page order and edit settings, and when they were created, changed or deleted.
- Sign-in sessions: tokens that keep you signed in, stored in a form that can't be used to sign in if leaked, and when they were used.
- Purchase status: whether your purchase of Scanly was verified (see below), on which platform and when.
How we use it: only to provide backup and sync, keep you signed in, enforce the storage included with your purchase, and keep the service secure. We don't look at your documents, and we don't use them for advertising, profiling or training AI models.
Where it is stored and how it is protected: on secure servers operated by Verxion. All data travels between the app and our servers over encrypted connections (HTTPS), and access to the servers is restricted to the people who run the service. Each account can only ever reach its own documents.
Sharing: we don't share or sell your account details or documents. We would only disclose them if required by law. Google or Apple know that you used their sign-in for Scanly, under their own privacy policies.
How long we keep it: for as long as you have an account. Documents you delete in the app go to Recently Deleted; when they are removed from it (by you, or automatically after 30 days) they are deleted from our servers too. Signing out keeps your backup; deleting your account removes it.
Deleting your data
You can delete your account and everything backed up to it at any time:
- in the app: Settings → Account → Delete account;
- on the web: scanly.verxion.dev/delete-account, by signing in with the same Google or Apple account (or by sending a request if you can no longer sign in);
- by email to [email protected].
Deletion removes your account details, all backed-up documents and images, and all sign-in sessions from our servers immediately, and revokes Scanly's access to your Apple ID if you used Sign in with Apple. Copies in our server backups are removed within 30 days. Scans stored on your devices are not affected; delete them in the app or by uninstalling it.
Google ML Kit
Edge detection and text recognition use Google's ML Kit, which runs on your device. Your images and their text are not sent to Google. ML Kit may send Google anonymous diagnostic and performance information (such as the device model and how well the feature performed) so Google can keep it working. See Google's ML Kit terms for details.
Permissions
- Camera: to scan documents. Camera images are processed on your device.
- Photos: only for the photos you pick to import. The system photo picker is used, so the app has no access to the rest of your photos.
- Internet: only for signing in and cloud backup.
Purchases
Scanly is bought through the App Store or Google Play. Apple or Google processes the payment; we never receive your payment details from them.
Cloud storage is included with your purchase. Before turning it on, the app asks Google Play (through the Play Integrity API) or the App Store for a signed confirmation that this copy of Scanly was bought, and sends it to us to check. We keep only the result, not the confirmation itself.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, and to object to how it is used. You can export your documents from the app at any time and delete your account as described above. For anything else, email [email protected] and we will respond within 30 days.
This website
scanly.verxion.dev does not use analytics or tracking and sets no cookies of its own. The account deletion page loads Google's and Apple's sign-in buttons, which are provided by Google and Apple under their own privacy policies. Our servers may keep standard technical logs (such as IP address and requested page) for a short time to keep the service secure and reliable.
Children
Scanly is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. For significant changes to how we handle data we already hold, we will also let you know in the app or by email.
